Photos
This section of the site displays photographs and links to photographs taken at the International Marconi Day stations over the years.
If you have photographs taken at the IMD events and wish to have them displayed within our pages please contact us using the contact form below to let us know what you have. I will gladly pop them onto the site acknowledging the individual contributor.
At the same time a short write up about the operators shown in the pictures and/or any stories about the happenings at the IMD operations would be great to see too. As an example we had one happening that will never be forgotten. We were erecting our 3 element beam in the field at Poldhu I believe for the second year of IMD. Well, the antenna was aloft using the customary gin pole arrangement and was being steadied by four of us holding ropes as it was quite windy, typical for a Cornish cliff top.
What happened next will never be forgotten by Mike G4WQL. He was holding one of the four ropes and he let it go! Even though the rope he was holding was actually slack and apparently not supporting the pole at all the beam came crashing to the grouind breaking an element in the process. Mike was mortified shouting ‘it was not even tight’. Then there was his ‘floater’ in the loo but we won’ t go down that road – sorry Mike!.
Please let us know if you have photos or videp clips of your groups IMD operations since 1987
