The Volkswagen Scene
The Club has been in existence since the 1960′s and I personally have been a member since early 2004 and a Committee member holding various posts since the AGM in October of that year. Following the AGM in 2004 the Club had lost its Webmaster and, although I was quite computer literate my skills where maintain ing a website were to say the least non existent. However, I agreed to look after the site and took it over from the person who was then the caretaker. The learning curve was very steep as the site in effect consisted of a large directory with several versions of the site within it and very difficuly to decide where the actual files in use were. Manged to get it up and running but later handed control to anothe Committee member in I think 2006. In 2005 I became the Vice Chairman of the Club and on 2006 assumed the position of Chairman mid year following a major cabinet restructure. It recently re appeared in a new format but still very much a work in progress though with many pages still to be populated and features enabled. Rome was not built in a day etc! At the 2009 AGM I was again elected to serve as Chairman. In the meantime I had put a Blog online as a test relating to CVWOC and decided to fully activate this to get a little more up to date web presencem in the interin, this blog can be found at If a members signs up there they get an automatic E.Mail whenever a post is made on the site. also, it is possible to elect to receive constant updates via an RSS [really simple syndication] feed on the site, simply by clicking on the button and adding the site to their RSS reader. The logical progression was then to start a community site to enable full participation by the members and to this end I have set up a NING community, this can be found at Please feel free to come on over to the4 site and sign up. You will be asked if you are a current club member when you sign up but will be very welcome indeed if a member or not. /from this site further announcements in connection with forthcoming events can be easily made to keep everyone well up to date with whats going on. I have also put a page up on Squidoo and this can be found here: Take a look and leave me a rating although the page is already quite well ranked a few votes will surely help. I have linked to a multitude of other VW related Squidoo Lenses and this will save visitors searching themselves as it will be point and click all the way. You can also follow us on Twitter as I have also set up a Twitter account at: I hope you will take the grand tour and leave some comments as it is always nice to know when somebody is taking a look at your work . More details of the Club can be found within the CVWOC pages on this site and at the other sites too.
This is where you all learn of the significance of G4USB. Its not just my registration nukmber that currently resides on my Corrado in fact, it came about in 1981 when I passed my Full Amateur Radio licence examinaqtions and was issued with my class A callsign and yes that is G4USB. I am well known across the globe by that identity, you could say it is my alter ego I suppose so i tend to use it for most things when an element of exclusivity is needed as, there will only ever be one G4USB call issued in the world whereas there could be hundreds of Norman Pascoe’s out there. I joined the Cornish Amateur Radio Club in 1980 and was elected to its Committee in 1981 and still remain there to this day. In I think 1982 I became the Club’s Secretary and remained on thatg post for about 7 years I think, then I became Vice Chairman for 3 years and became Chairman following that and remained in that post for about 8 years. The following year I remained in the Committee in a non executive position and then became the President and remain in that post to this day. It is a hobby where, once licenced, it matters now what age you are or what disabilities you may have It is a tremendous hobby for young peopler to get involved in and very often karge technology based companies offer sponsored scholorshios and being a radio ham can pave the way to an excellent career opportunity. Unfortunmately at present, we are not seeing very many young entrants to our hobby. This is really the direct result of the computer revolution drawing them into communication by that means and mobile telephones. One youngster actually said to me that Marconi
Our Club is a fully accredited centre of learning appointed by the RSGB/Ofcom and we are currently holding courses for the three stages of training necessary to reach the full amateur radio qualification. 1.The Foundation Licence Our trainer is Graham G3LAI a retired gentleman who has been involved in amateur radio for most of his life, worked for the RAF & Government in an electrobics based occupation and has a vast amount of knowledge bursting out of his brain and just waiting to be tapped in to. Currently a Foundation course is running with examinations due to be taken in later April so we may see a few more opertors in the near future. One is the daughter of our Vice Chairman and she is I believe aged 12. Once licenced and a amember of our club you will be able to take part in our special event activities. We mount a demonstration station every year at the CVWOC Jamboree and usually receive a huge amount of interest. It is amazing how many of our viitors at the Jamboree are already licenced. In 1987 I became one of the founder members of International Marconi Day that is held on the Saturday nearest to April 24th [Marconi's birthday]. There will be approximately 50 official stations taking part from locations around the globe where Marconi carried out his numerous experiments. We offer an award to both transmitting amateurs and short wave listeners for making contact with at least 15 of the stations and provide an excellent certificate for their achievement. Might sound easy but believe me it is not as you have to find the contacts forst and then compete with the other stations calling them, 24 hours of pure mayhem. We hold a mobile Rakky each July when we provide the venue,Penair School,Truro, for traders to set up their stalls and sell their wares normally linked to amateur radio and comouting but anything goes if we have the space. Catering is provided too and as much as anything its a social event to allow us to meet the voices we speak to regularly face to face. We hold radio section meetings every first Wednesday of the month at the Perranwell Church Hall Come long and see us either at our Rally in July or at one of our outside events like the CVWOC Jamboree we will always wecome your visit. Here in cornwall we represent the site at Poldhu Cover where on 12th Dec 1901 the first transatlantic contact was made between Cornwall & Newfoundland. Everyone thought Marconi was a madman in Italy but, he was accepted to carry out research by the English Admiralty when his mother brought him over to England. As I said earlier, thank goodness England embraced his lunacy or we would have a different world today Norman G4USB

In 2007 I was again Vice Chairman and in 2008 became the Secretary following the elected Secretary’s resignation from the Club. We had again lost our externally appointed Website Designer and Webmaster and the site was temporarilily being managed yet again.

because once you have made contact with a fellow amateur across the globe they have no idea that you are in your 90′s are blind, in a wheelchair, bald, fat or beautiful, everyone is equal and friends are made over a massive range of ages. You will find the older the amater is the more technical knowledge there is locked within his brain and the more interesting the conversation will be. Just talk, listen and learn.
was of no interest to him, what did he ever do, then, he answered his mobile anc chatted for a while with his mate. When he finished I mentiined that Marconi paved the way to make that act possible. ‘But its a telehone not a radio he quipped’ well yes its called a mobile phone but in actuality it is a transceiver a device capable of both transmission and receiot of a radio signal at the frequency set by the telecommunications company. No radio, no mobile phone, no remote controls, no television, no radio1 WOW a different world indeed.

A thoughtful insight and ideas I will use on my blog. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time on this. Well done!
Wherever did you find your design?? It is actually brilliant!
